Description
- Develop, design and improve chemical products used in the metal working process in order to enhance process, safety and quality in meeting customer needs and provide solutions to application problems. Develop or improve test methods to enhance repeatability & reproducibility, efficiency and field performance predictability.
- Investigate applicability of new and replacement raw materials in order to enhance performance and minimize cost. Evaluate and incorporate alternate raw materials in existing products.
- Carry out various lab tests and make determinations in order to address customer problems. Develop and perform requested analysis & testing.
- Determine performance characteristics of competitive products using physical, instrumental & wet analysis techniques.
- Document & record observations and testing data. Provide written and oral presentations to internal and external customers as required. Provide legal and archival documentation for patent application.
- Autonomously execute development assignments under the supervision of the laboratory manager and in conjunction with the product manager.
- Provide assistance to manufacturing and customers in order to improve the quality and efficiency of the manufacturing or application process.
- Comply with safety regulations and make recommendations towards the improvement of safety and environmental concerns.
- Assist with coaching or daily instruction of other chemists and technicians in the group.
- Preparation and presentation of technical papers or reports. Present to trades organizations, customers and internally.
- Actively monitors current technology and trends.
Qualifications
- Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment. Must be well-organized and able to drive multiple projects and work with internal and external customers across geographical lines.
- Must have sense of urgency and be results oriented.
- Must have good time management and communication skills (oral and written). Must be able to write presentations, speeches, articles for publication.
- Must be able to travel up to 10-15% of the time. Must be able to visit customer and manufacturing facilities, which may require traversing uneven or slippery terrain, and climbing stairs and ladders.
- Must be able to don and wear required Personal Protective Equipment.
This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other closely related field with required years of relevant work experience. Must have at least three years of relevant experience in Metalworking industry experience for Level II. Requires minimum of six years relevant work experience in Metalworking industry for Level III. Experience in participation in customer visits, and making presentations on behalf of the lab is considered a plus.
