CONSHOHOCKEN, PA (June 25, 2018) – Building on its reputation as a leader in the mining industry, Quaker Chemical Corporation (NYSE: KWR, “Quaker”), is proud to recognize the achievements of Calvin Kidd, global business development manager. A native of Fayette County, West Virginia, Kidd’s success in the industry is complemented by his dedication to student growth. Over 40 years ago, Kidd began a partnership with West Virginia University (WVU) to educate students enrolled in the mining engineering school.

In the 1970s,  WVU invited Kidd to share his mining industry experience with students, to offer advice for school and their future careers. The exchange turned into an annual event, and grew to incorporate visits to mining rebuild shops, plants, underground longwall operations, and corporate offices. Over the years the program has reached such a size that Quaker now sponsors a group of students to travel to the West Virginia Coal Symposium, for a series of events and presentations on matters affecting the industry.

This event has also culminated in the Calvin Kidd Fellowship Award, an annual award presented to a mining professional who has demonstrated dedication to student growth and advancement by promoting professional interaction and fellowship within the industry. “It’s amazing the people’s lives you come in contact with,” says Mr. Kidd. “We are making an investment in the future of our industry and I have truly been fortunate to play a role.”

Kidd has enjoyed a 50-year career, during which he’s served on a number of boards and committees. In 2015, he was inducted into the West Virginia Coal Hall of Fame.
